Leadership

Wild Olive Birth Company leads perinatal health efforts in nurturing, growing, and supporting families and individuals to thrive.

We are a community-driven space dedicated to improving perinatal health in rural and urban areas. Through education, services, and partnerships, we center the needs of diverse families, including Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian, and Pacific Islander communities. Our efforts bring together individuals and organizations to exchange resources, offer health services, and provide referrals, focusing on maternal and medical care in underserved areas.

My name is Jazzmine "Rural Black Doula"

I started as one of the few Black doulas in Iowa and have had the privilege of supporting 100+ families, training and mentoring doulas, and providing culturally affirming care that honors every family’s story.

“We are the ones we have been waiting for.”

June Jordan (1936–2002) was a Black feminist poet, essayist, teacher, and activist whose work centered on liberation, love, and justice. She wrote powerfully about race, gender, sexuality, and oppression, always tying personal experience to larger struggles for freedom. Jordan believed in the transformative power of language and community, and her writings often celebrated resilience and the possibility of building a more just world. One of her most quoted lines, “We are the ones we have been waiting for,” continues to inspire movements for collective care and liberation today.
